چکیده

A new hybrid membrane-aerated biofilm reactor (MABR) technology that enables energy-neutral treatment of municipal wastewater is introduced. The process, which removes nitrogen using conventional nitrificationdenitrification, was demonstrated at pilot-scale, treating primary effluent. The new MABR membrane product can operate in a high mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS) environment, making it suitable for use in a conventional activated sludge reactor to increase oxygen transfer and nitrification capacity. The pilot achieved removal rates of 91% for TSS, 83% for COD, 95% for ammonia, and 66% for total inorganic nitrogen. MABR technology has the potential to transfer oxygen very efficiently, at an aeration efficiency of 6 kg O2/kWh.

Developing a multi-criteria decision support system based on fuzzy analytical hierarchical process (AHP) method for selection of appropriate high-strength wastewater treatment plant

The selection of optimum high strength wastewater treatment process is complicated. Be familiar with wastewater treatment methods is not enough to design a plant. In this research, five alternative wastewater treatment methods (upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) + membrane bioreactor (MBR), UASB + Extended aeration (EA), Anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR), anaerobic lagoon (ANL) + aerated lago...

Utilizing algal oxygen production for advanced wastewater treatment in a Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) – the Biologically Aerated Reactor (BAR

A novel wastewater treatment system has been developed, utilizing an oxygen-rich algal liquid to supply oxygen to an aerobic biofilm reactor. Aerobic treatment of wastewater takes place in a Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor, where the aerobic biomass which breaks down organic and nitrogenous pollutants grows as a biofilm on floating carriers. Algae grown in an open raceway pond produce oxygen through...

Membrane Aerated Biofilms: Who is There, What are They Doing, and Why are They Beneficial

Membrane aerated biofilms (MABs) are an emerging technology for wastewater treatment. Several bench scale and pilot scale studies have help to highlight the benefits of this technology. This paper will discuss experiments that examined the impact of oxygen gradients and the impact of BOD gradients on the performance of MABs, and discusses how an MAB compares to a conventional biofilm.

The Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor

A new biofilm reactor for wastewater treatment, the moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR), is discussed. A general description of the reactor is given. Results from investigations of different applications (carbonaceous removal, nitrification and nitrogen removal) when used for municipal wastewater treatment, are discussed. Design values are given and it is demonstrated that use of this reactor res...

Energy and Performance Comparison of Microbial Fuel Cell and Conventional Aeration Treating of Wastewater

Microbial fuel cell (MFC) technology provides a low cost alternative to conventional aerated wastewater treatment, however, there has been little comparison between MFC and aeration treatment using real wastewater as the substrate. This study attempts to directly compare the wastewater treatment efficiency and energy consumption and generation among three reactor systems-a traditional aeration ...
